University of Pittsburgh

Welcome from the Chair

Welcome to the second century of psychology at the University of Pittsburgh. Since our founding in 1904, The Department of Psychology has striven to excel in both research and training. Our department, which is located in Sennott Square, a state-of-the-art academic and research building, has become a center for multidisciplinary programs in which faculty and students conduct basic research in behavioral and cognitive sciences that addresses real-world problems.  Our goal is to better reflect the increasingly interdisciplinary nature of psychology by developing and strengthening cross-discipline training experiences at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.

This interdisciplinary theme is advanced by combining traditional programs in clinical, cognitive, developmental, biological and health, and social Psychology with collaborative enterprises that bridge programs, such as the ones in clinical/developmental and clinical/biological-health. The interdisciplinary nature of the training experiences available to our students also is manifest in strong links between psychology and other parts of the University, such as the Learning Research and Development Center, the Office of Child Development, the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, the Center for Neuroscience, University of Pittsburgh, the Center for the Neural Basis of Cognition, the Pittsburgh Mind-Body Center and departments such as Psychiatry and Linguistics.

So come join us as we continue our second century in an ever renewing atmosphere of learning and scholarship!
