Requirements
Knowing the requirements for completing your undergraduate degree before embarking on a course of study not only is mandatory, it is simply good sense.
To earn a degree in psychology at the University of Pittsburgh, you need to meet the following degree requirements:
- School of Arts and Sciences requirements
- Research participation
- Laboratory requirements
Two of the required major courses have a mandatory laboratory experience: Research Methods (PSY 0035) and one of the following: Learning & Motivation (PSY 0405) or Cognitive Psychology for Majors (PSY 0420). These are each 4-credit courses.
- Grade requirements
A student wishing to graduate with a psychology major must have a "C" or better in each of the foundation courses for the major (PSY 0010/0012/0015; STAT 0200/1000/1100; PSY 0035) and a 2.0 GPA across all psychology courses. Note: "C" grades or better in these foundation courses are not prerequisite to declaring the psychology major.
- Writing requirements
Psychology majors must take one W-course (writing intensive) in the department. PSY 0035 (Research Methods) is offered every term as a W-course. The department also occasionally offers 1000-level W-courses. - Students must earn a 2.00 GPA overall, in their psychology courses, and in their related area to graduate.
