Directed Research
Directed Research (PSY 1903) is an opportunity for students to get involved with research under the supervision of a faculty member of the psychology department or certain other laboratories. This experience is particularly valuable for students interested in pursuing honors in psychology and/or graduate study in psychology.
Students must meet the following requirements before the start of Directed Research:
- Overall GPA 3.0 or higher
- 12 credits of psychology (including current term)
- STAT 0200 or STAT 1000 or STAT 1100- Statistics
- PSY 0035- Research Methods in Psychology
If you do not meet the requirements, your faculty supervisor may admit you by completing a Directed Research Prerequisite Waiver form.
Credit Options
Students may take a maximum of 3 credits of PSY 1903 in one term and a maximum of 6 credits on any one research project. A maximum of 3 credits of 1903, 1900 (Supervised Field Placement), and 1902 (Directed Reading) may be applied toward the psychology major as a 1000-level course. Credits are determined by the number of hours spent on the project over the term:
1 credit= 55 hours
2 credits= 85 hours
3 credits= 120 hours
