When should you see an advisor?
- To discuss career options and planning
- To learn about internships and research opportunities
- To monitor your progress toward your degree
- To register for courses
- Anytime you have questions or concerns
During registration period, you will need an appointment. Given that Psychology is the largest major in the School of Arts and Sciences, registration is a very busy time in our office. Registration appointments are generally only 20 minutes long and are scheduled back-to-back. You will need to sign-up for a registration appointment in person during the appropriate sign-up. Then, you will need to come to your appointment on time and prepared. If you are late or not ready, you will have to reschedule for a later date.
At other times of the year, you may call to make an appointment or walk in during office hours.
All psychology majors have an assigned advisor. If you do not know who your assigned advisor is and you are not a newly declared student please call the advising office at 412-624-4540. Advisors will send introductory emails to new majors shortly after the declaration deadline of each semester.
Students will see their advisor for all advising appointments and registration. You may see the walk-in advisor if you do not have a scheduled appointment, although we recommend you schedule an appointment with your advisor. Remember, the better your advisor gets to know you, the more they can help you.
Walk-in advising is designed to schedule appointments, answer quick questions, and drop off paperwork. Walk-in appointments are not to exceed 5-10 minutes; this is to ensure quick service to all students with walk-in type needs. If you need to meet with your advisor for a more complex situation, please schedule an appointment.
